Kai Leng, Ph.D.

2024 AYS Fellow - Physical Science

Presidential Young Assistant Professor, Department of Applied Physics, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Research areas: Molecularly thin 2D hybrid perovskites and all organic 2D perovskites

Award Citation: The AYSF Committee acknowledges her groundbreaking work in the new field of molecularly thin two-dimensional hybrid perovskites and would like to support her further exploration in this field, including many versatile applications in flexible microelectronics and spintronics.

Bio: She received her Ph.D. from the National University of Singapore and pursued postdoctoral research at the University of Cambridge. Her research is on the emerging field of molecularly thin hybrid perovskites. During her Ph.D. study, she was the first to isolate 2D hybrid perovskite monolayers and uncovered their novel physical properties. She is interested in establishing accurate atomic structure-property relationships in hybrid perovskites and developing device applications, particularly in opto-microelectronics and spintronics. Currently, her team is focused on the large-scale growth of hybrid perovskite single-crystalline films and their device integration.

Her work has been recognized with numerous honors, such as the Asia Pacific TR35 Award by MIT Technology Review, the Croucher Tak Wah Mak Innovation Award, the Early Career Research Gold Award from the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry and the China Excellent Young Scientist Award.
