  • Upcoming AYS Webinar - Session 4: The Biggest Question of the Future of Topological Physics ❓

    Session 4 of AYS Webinar will be held on January 21, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM (Hong Kong time).  This new session will focus on "The Biggest Question of the Future of Topological Physics". It will discuss the current state and future direction of the application of topology in physics.

    Led by Professor Tomoki Ozawa from Tohoku University, with invited speakers Professor Xie Chen at California Institute of Technology and Professor Hongming Weng at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Speakers will explore intriguing scientific questions in Topological Physics together.

    The 2024 Asian Young Scientists Annual Conference, held on October 31, 2024, at the University of Hong Kong, brought together total of 26 participants, including AYS Fellows and committee members, actively engaged in the event, sharing insights and discussing future collaboration opportunities.

    The event featured presentations by the newly elected 2024 AYS Fellows, highlighting groundbreaking research across disciplines and interdisciplinary innovations.

    The conference concluded with a by-invitation-only cocktail reception, providing an informal platform for networking and celebrating the Fellows’ achievements in a collegial atmosphere.

  • 🚀 New Launch: Asian Young Scientist Webinar

    Asian Young Scientist Webinar – the Biggest Question for My Science series is organized by the Asian Young Scientist Fellowship in partnership with universities in Asia. This series fosters a deeper understanding of the fundamental questions that drive scientific discovery. 

    Each session features an AYS Fellow and a prominent scientist from related fields discussing the most critical question in their research and the scientific community's approach. It will be held monthly via online Zoom meetings and is open to participation.

Selection Process

Nomination + Material Submission

After being nominated, the nominee is required to submit a full application material (including a CV, a Research Statement, and three recommendation letters) for a review process by the Selection Committee.

    • Candidates must have a full-time position in an academic and research institution in Asia.

    • Candidates must be able to conduct independent scientific research as a principal investigator.

    • Candidates must be within 10 years post completion of the terminal（Ph.D./MD）degree. In 2025 Selection Round - Candidates must obtain their terminal degree from January 1st, 2015.

  • The Fellowship supports early-career scientists in the three fields, covering the basic, applied and cross-disciplinary research:

    • Life Science

    • Physical Science

    • Mathematics and Computer science

  • We currently cover the following countries in Asia:

    • China (mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan)

    • India

    • Japan

    • Korea

    • Singapore

  • An invitation is sent to a pool of nominators in Asia to nominate early-career scientists as candidates for the Fellowship.

  • Candidates are required to submit a full application material to be reviewed by the Selection Committees.

    Application material including a CV, a research statement, and 3 letters of recommendation.

  • The Application submitted by the candidate will be carefully evaluated by the Selection Committee.

  • The Fellowship recipients will be announced by the end of August, 2024.

  • Funding.

    $100,000 USD awarded over two consecutive years ($50,000 USD annually). The grant is disbursed to the fellow’s home institution to support his/her research.

    Fellows will be able to access a community of frontier-thinking young scientists around Asia and our global network of scientists, fostering collaborations and friendships.

  • Empowerment.

    Fellowship conferences and discussions will be held annually to promote interdisciplinary dialogues and stimulate innovation.
