A Letter to Candidates for
the Asian Young Scientist Fellowship 2022
Dear Candidates,
Congratulation! You have been nominated as a candidate for the Asian Young Scientist Fellowship because you are recognized by your peers as a promising young scientist in your field.
The Asian Young Scientist Fellowship aims to encourage and support young scientists in Asia to carry out creative and transformative research. We have designed a 2-year Fellowship to enable early-career researchers to freely explore their areas of interest with the funding and resources provided by the Fellowship.
The 2-year Fellowship offers to every fellow:
Funding: $100,000 USD grant awarded over two consecutive years. The grant is disbursed to your home institution, and you will have the freedom to dictate how the funding is used toward your research.
Mentor Program: based on your research interest, we will be paired you up with senior scientists who could provide advice on your research project and set you up with a mentor-mentee relationship that might last as a long-term friendship and partnership.
Research Empowerment: a platform to share your research work and ideas at the annual Fellowship conference and opportunities for invited talks and seminars.
Community and Network: access to a community of frontier-thinking young scientists around Asia and a global network of prominent scientists at our annual Fellowship conference.
We encourage Fellows to be bold in exploring new research frontiers otherwise would be deemed too risky or preliminary by traditional funding agencies. We are particularly interested in funding projects that are:
Creative – address important scientific questions using creative approaches or methods.
Transformative – pursue high-risk, high-reward research that may have a transformative impact in a field.
Interdisciplinary – integrate knowledge, tools, perspectives, and/or collaborators across disciplines to advance innovative research at the interface.
Thus, we advise you to take this opportunity to think about your future research plan and communicate it to us through the research statement in the application. Chances are we might be able to support you on this journey to realize it.
We look forward to your participation!
Yours Sincerely,
Committees of the Asian Young Scientist Fellowship
