Yue Gao, Ph.D.
2023 AYS Fellow - Physical Science
Assistant Professor, Department of Macromolecular Science, Fudan University
Research areas: Organic energy storage and conversion, Batteries, Electrochemically active polymers
Award Citation: The AYSF Committee acknowledges his contribution to the field of electrochemical energy storage and would like to support his exploration in the development of organic materials for transformative energy storage system.
Bio: Yue Gao is an assistant professor at the department of Macromolecular Science at Fudan University. Yue earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Pennsylvania State University in 2018 and worked as a Vagelos fellow at Pennsylvania University before joining Fudan. His researches addressed the key problem of unstable interfaces in lithium-ion batteries by designing polymers and polymer/nanosheet composites that bind specifically to the interfaces and stabilize them upon cycling. These papers appeared on Nature Materials, Nature Energy, PNAS, Nature Comm., J. Am. Chem., Soc., etc. Yue’s group widely pursues transformative advances in energy storage, energy conversion, and robotics by designing organic and polymer materials, as well as exploring mechanisms underpinning functions. Yue received MIT Technology Review’s Innovators Under 35 China, Young Investigator of the US Department of Energy Battery500 Consortium, Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad, Materials Research Society Graduate Student Award, and Penn State Graduate Student Award.
