  • 💻 AYS Webinar Summary - Session 3: How will AI Transform the Landscape of Precision Oncology?

    The third AYS Webinar, held on September 26, 2024 (CST), focused on the application of AI in precision oncology. Professors Hao Chen (HKUST), Katsushi Ikeuchi (University of Tokyo), and Ming Li (University of Waterloo) shared their latest research on computational pathology, highlighting how multimodal data integration can improve disease diagnosis, treatment response prediction, and prognosis, all framed through the lens of information theory and foundation models.

    In addition to discussing the technical advances, the speakers shared valuable insights and advice for junior researchers, urging them to think boldly, pursue impactful discoveries, and push the boundaries of their fields. Their guidance aimed to inspire young scientists to achieve excellence in both their academic and professional careers.

    The second session of AYS Webinar, held on August 22, 2024 (CST), focused on cognitive sharpness and mental acuity, with presentations by Professors Ho Ko (The Chinese University of Hong Kong), Hee-Sup Shin (Institute for Basic Science), and Xiangdong Fu (Westlake University), exploring the natural progression of time and its effects on our brains.

  • 🚀 New Launch: Asian Young Scientist Webinar

    Asian Young Scientist Webinar – the Biggest Question for My Science series is organized by the Asian Young Scientist Fellowship in partnership with universities in Asia. This series fosters a deeper understanding of the fundamental questions that drive scientific discovery. 

    Each session features an AYS Fellow and a prominent scientist from related fields discussing the most critical question in their research and the scientific community's approach. It will be held monthly via online Zoom meetings and is open to participation.

    We warmly welcome researchers, scholars, and students to join this webinar series.

Selection Process

Nomination + Material Submission

After being nominated, the nominee is required to submit a full application material (including a CV, a Research Statement, and three recommendation letters) for a review process by the Selection Committee.

    • Candidates must have a full-time position in an academic and research institution in Asia.

    • Candidates must be able to conduct independent scientific research as a principal investigator.

    • Candidates must be within 10 years post completion of the terminal(Ph.D./MD)degree. - terminal degree obtained on/after January 1st, 2014, with a special extension to consider degrees obtained between January 1st - December 31st, 2013.

  • The Fellowship supports early-career scientists in the three fields, covering the basic, applied and cross-disciplinary research:

    • Life Science

    • Physical Science

    • Mathematics and computer science

  • We currently cover the following countries in Asia:

    • China (mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan)

    • India

    • Japan

    • Korea

    • Singapore

  • An invitation is sent to a pool of nominators in Asia to nominate early-career scientists as candidates for the Fellowship.

  • Candidates are required to submit a full application material to be reviewed by the Selection Committees.

    Application material including a CV, a research statement, and 3 letters of recommendation.

  • The Application submitted by the candidate will be carefully evaluated by the Selection Committee.

  • The Fellowship recipients will be announced by the end of August, 2024.

Benefits.

  • Funding.

    $100,000 USD awarded over two consecutive years ($50,000 USD annually). The grant is disbursed to the fellow’s home institution to support his/her research.

  • Community and Network.

    Fellows will be able to access a community of frontier-thinking young scientists around Asia and our global network of scientists, fostering collaborations and friendships.

  • Empowerment.

    Fellowship conferences and discussions will be held annually to promote interdisciplinary dialogues and stimulate innovation.
